Frequently Asked Questions

You Have Questions – We Have Answers

Find out everything you need to know about Driftwood Cemetery – from how to contact us to the cemetery’s location, fees, and application criteria.

Q: Are plots still available at the Driftwood Cemetery, and if so, who may secure a gravesite?

A: The Driftwood Cemetery is an active cemetery. According to the by-laws of the Driftwood Cemetery Association, gravesites are available, generally speaking, to residents of that area designated by the U.S. Postal service as the 78619 (Driftwood) zip code; direct descendants of those buried in the cemetery; and those who are active in either of the Driftwood churches, or those who are active in the Driftwood Historical Conservation Society.

Q: How do I obtain a plot at the Driftwood Cemetery?

A: To obtain a plot at the cemetery, an application must be completed and returned to the cemetery manager for processing and approval. If approved, $750 per plot must be received by the Driftwood Cemetery Association before plots are assigned. You can make that payment here.

Q: Can the Driftwood Cemetery accommodate cremations and cremains, and what is the fee?

A: While the cemetery does not have a columbarium or scatter garden, our by-laws permit the interment of cremated remains in plots. More than one set of cremated remains may be interred in a reserved plot with the consent of an authorized agent. In such an instance, an administrative fee of $100 will be assessed, and the cost of the professional excavation will be borne by the requesting party. You can pay that fee here.

Q: Who maintains the Driftwood Cemetery?

A: Regular mowing and general landscape maintenance are performed by paid contractors as needed. The DCA Board of Directors determines other improvement projects for the cemetery on an ongoing basis.

Q: Are there gravesite restrictions concerning curbing, monuments, plantings, and decorations?

A: Any addition to the cemetery or any gravesite, including curbs, plantings, and artificial decorations, must be approved by and coordinated with the Cemetery Manager prior to placement. No grave curbing of any kind will be allowed in the Driftwood Cemetery unless the top of the curbing is flush with the ground, to facilitate mowing of the cemetery.

Headstones, other grave markings, and ground covers may not encroach on any adjacent grave site. Only ground-cover types of plantings are permitted. The planting of trees and shrubs is not permitted.

PLEASE NOTE: Water faucets at the cemetery may not be used for watering plants.

Breakable items may not be placed at gravesite headstones. The placement of items that quickly deteriorate or dissolve is discouraged, as the cemetery can become littered quickly, making mowing and maintenance difficult. Deteriorating and damaged decorations will be removed monthly.

Q: Who do I contact when an interment needs to occur?

A: A cemetery official may be reached by calling 512-917-3105 or 512-496-3560, or by email at driftwoodcemetery@gmail.com. You should also contact your funeral home.

Q: How do I locate a specific gravesite at the cemetery?
